Story + Brand + Visual

About

A great story is the most important part of creating a memorable message.
Our process goes a little something like this...

Story:
You share your great idea. We listen. We come up with a story that nails the concept you want to develop, and aligns with your business goals.

Brand:
We develop a unifying vision, which aligns with your core values and business strategy, creating an experience that connects with your audience.

Visual:
With a clever concept, a solid narrative, and a defined brand, beautiful design and visual media emerge and resonate with your company’s personality and values.

I'm a Creative Director who works with clients that range from mission-based startups and nonprofits to corporations on storytelling, branding, design, and video.

Storytelling has always come naturally to me. A good listener, I recognize the wisdom in understanding and identifying what’s at the heart of a good story to create the right message. For a time, I dreamt of becoming an Anthropology professor as a way to uncover tales of people and cultures. Applying theory to anything and everything, however, didn’t quite work for me. After deciding the ivory tower wasn’t for me, I pursued visual communication through branding, design, and filmmaking.

I have the great fortune of collaborating with an incredible writer, Sandra Salas. Together, we uncover the strongest concept for a client, and our team brings the brand to life through design.

Clients and project work include Levi's, Misfit/Fossil Group, VMware, Genentech, Ixia, Hansoft, Sauce Labs, Teridion, the American Association of the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Public Health Association (APHA), Turner4D, and InterAction.

Sandra Salas, Writer

An award-winning writer, Sandra has written shorts, promos, and features. Her independent productions include co-writing, co-producing, and directing a documentary-style TV pilot. She has field produced broadcast news spots and corporate videos for Medialink. Sandra's industry experience includes working behind the scenes on numerous commercials, promos, films, and TV shows including Hell’s Kitchen and MGM’s new hit America’s Greatest Makers

Her on-going work on her feature documentary, Recovering Irma, has garnered funding and creative support from the Sundance DFP fund, nextPix “firstPix humanistic media award, the NALIP Latino Media Market, the NALIP LAMP Fellowship program, and the NALIP/HBO LPA Fellowship program. Salas was also awarded fiscal sponsorship from the San Francisco Film Society (SFFS) for her documentary and continues to receive their ongoing support. During her off hours, she can be found skateboarding through the streets of Hollywood and hiking in Griffith Park with her dog Georgie Girl.

Integrated. That’s the best way to describe the work Nicole produces, whether as an individual contributor or marshalling the efforts of others. Her sense of client and relentlessness building understanding around client needs as a precursor to beginning work puts Nicole ahead of the pack when it comes to creative services professionals I’ve known and worked with over the years. A close relative of “Integrated” is “versatile.” Nicole is the antithesis of the “one style fits all” creative professional. Whether branding work, messaging, web / collateral layout, Nicole’s sensibilities consistently delighted us at Sauce Labs. Under Nicole’s leadership, the Sauce Labs brand grew to be regarded as the strongest within its space.

Lastly, joy. Working with Nicole is a joy. She brings an immense brightness to whatever she does and wherever she goes. And that shows up in the quality and character of the work she produces.
— John Dunham, COO at Cloud9 IDE
Nicole created a wonderful and strategic brand refresh for us. She worked with Sandra Salas, an amazing writer, to identify the essence of Ixia's brand. Ixia has acquired a few companies, which made the brand feel disjointed and confusing. Our goal was to integrate everything into one cohesive brand. They established strong brand guidelines, which led to a unified voice. We wanted to move away from the ominous look and feel Ixia had, and they had a clear insight on how to do that. Nicole understood our needs, made strategic choices, and took that insight to the next level with a design direction that feels fresh, cohesive, and captures Ixia. Nicole is a great collaborator, and we were really happy with the end result. She is a unique combination of smart, strategic, inspiring, and creative. I highly recommend Intersect, and working with Nicole and Sandra.
— Marie Hattar, Chief Marketing Officer at Ixia
Nicole brings a much-needed approach to the creative process by fusing story, brand, and visuals to create a powerful message. In the current marketing environment, working with an individual who can provide compelling storytelling and design is critical. She couples this with good iterative skills, and she is willing to work with you until you are satisfied with the solution.
— David Ginsburg, Chief Marketing Officer at Teridion
I have known Nicole since she joined my staff in 2002 at Interaction, the largest US alliance of overseas humanitarian groups. I have continued to rely on her for the most important projects at the Balman Group, and now at my current firm, Turner4D. Nicole, with her warmth, good humor and brains, is a pleasure to work with, even under the tightest pressure. She is a gifted designer, with a strong sense of creative direction and vision, particularly with brand development and management. She is equally talented on print and web projects, with a keen understanding of visual storytelling. Nicole is a master at managing the creative process to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.
— Sid Balman, Managing Director at Turner 4D
Nicole has been our organization’s go-to design consultant for the past eight years. Her range as a creative professional is what we value most: from branding science innovation competitions to building websites to designing print collateral and conference materials, she’s a one-stop shop for all things design.
— Janel Kiley, Art Director at AAAS
I’ve had the privilege of working with Nicole for the last two Tech-I Competitions where her excellent work has helped our team illustrate and visualize our global efforts and create a new Tech-I brand that’s been such an amazing success. She is a most trusted and valued colleague.
— Cristine Geers, Innovation Advisor at USAID at The Global Development Lab
Nicole is a fantastic person to work with and a skillful colleague. I succeeded her at web manager at a major humanitarian and disaster response organization. She remained in touch and we collaborated as opportunities arose for the next several years. When I transitioned out of that position, she and I worked together as consultants to ensure projects were completed and well-managed during the hand-off. I look forward to continuing to work with her as her graphic design and multimedia firm continues to grow.
